Leadership Tampa Bay Class of 2004 left Pasco Day with one word – growth! The day began at the Pasco Hernando State College, Porter Campus, with a warm and enthusiastic welcome from Dr. Davina Jones, Provost, followed by a Pasco Power of Access Panel. This was a panel like no other. Leadership Tampa Bay was able to engage with the eight members of the panel in small group formats and get a greater understanding of their thoughts on Pasco County, the challenges they face daily and what they are proud of. Two messages were woven through the conversation – Pasco County works together and makes decisions for their entire community, and they are really growing – but the small-town feel is still present!
We then loaded back on the bus for a quick ride to Florida Ave Brewing Company. We were welcomed by Chuck Carden from Tampa Bay Water, the Platinum Sponsor – who reminded us how much water it takes to make beer and the importance of conservation. Florida Ave Brewing Company hosted us for lunch and gave us a fantastic facility tour. Anthony Derby, CEO of Florida Ave Brewing Company, spoke of why they chose their flagship location and how their growth now employs more than 100 people!
Our last stop of the day was at Advent Health Center Ice, where the theme of growth continued, but this time around sports and tourism. Advent Health Center Ice has five sheets of ice and is one of the largest Learn-to-Skate programs. James Mitchell, CEO of Advent Health Center Ice, shared about the economic impact the facility has had on the region. We also heard from a panel that shared how Pasco County has rebranded itself to be the “Florida Sports Coast” and how the tourism brought from Advent Health Center Ice, SVB Tennis Center, and the skydiving in Zephyrhills has contributed to the success of the rebrand. The cherry on top of our day was a glow-in-the-dark free skate – there are some great skaters in the Leadership Tampa Bay Class of 2004!
Thank you again to our Platinum Sponsor Tampa Bay Water and our In-kind Sponsor Florida Avenue Brewing Company.
